A Year-Round Marketing Calendar for Oregon Trades, Built with AI

Winston · Head of AI Field Strategy

Most trade shops market in a panic. A cold snap hits, the phones go crazy, and nobody has posted anything useful in two months. An Oregon trades marketing calendar fixes that by deciding the year in advance, so the work is already queued when the weather turns. AI is good at exactly this kind of job: planning the sequence and drafting the first version of every piece. You stay in charge of what actually goes out.

This is the planning layer that sits on top of the phone, review, and follow-up systems we cover in our practical guide to AI for plumbers, electricians, and HVAC companies.

Why Does a Trades Business Need a Marketing Calendar?

Because your demand is not flat. Pipes freeze in a hard cold snap. Air conditioners get noticed on the first hot week. Furnaces get remembered the first cold night in fall. Homeowners search for you at those moments, and the shop that already has a useful page, post, or text ready tends to be the one that gets the call.

A calendar also protects you from the opposite problem: going silent for months. Consistency is what keeps your Google Business Profile, social pages, and email list alive between busy spells.

What Does the Year Look Like for Portland Metro Shops?

Oregon's seasons are mild compared with much of the country, but the pattern is real. Use this as a starting frame and adjust it to your own trade and service mix.

  • January and February: freeze and storm prep. Frozen and burst pipe tips, how to find your main shut-off valve, and reminders to protect outdoor spigots. Electricians can cover generator safety basics and surge protection for outage-prone neighborhoods.
  • March and April: spring tune-up push. AC tune-ups before the rush, drainage and sump pump checks after wet months, and panel or outlet safety inspections.
  • May and June: get ahead of summer. Book cooling checks early, promote maintenance plan sign-ups, and publish your heat-readiness content before the first hot week. Our post on handling the first heat wave and first cold snap covers the phone side.
  • July and August: heat season. Short, practical posts on what to check before calling for AC service, and honest wait-time updates on your profile and website.
  • September and October: furnace season. Heating tune-ups, filter reminders, and carbon monoxide detector reminders. Safety content here should always say: if a detector sounds or you suspect carbon monoxide, leave the home and call 911 or your gas utility.
  • November: storm season and holiday load. Outage readiness, whole-home surge protection, and a plan for holiday lighting. Electricians can remind homeowners about extension cord and circuit load limits without pretending to diagnose a specific house.
  • December: year-end and reviews. Thank-you messages to customers, a review push, and a look back at what worked this year.

How Does AI Actually Help Build It?

Give an AI assistant like ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini a short brief: your trade, the cities you serve, your three highest-margin services, and the month you are planning. Ask it for a content plan with a Google Business Profile post, one social post, one email, and one text per week. You will get a usable skeleton in a minute or two.

Then give it real material. Notes from recent jobs, common questions your office hears, and your actual policies make the drafts specific. Generic drafts read like every other shop. Specific drafts read like you.

For batching, plan one quarter at a time. Spend an hour a quarter on the plan and fifteen minutes a week approving drafts, rather than scrambling for ideas every Monday.

Where Do the Pieces Go?

What Should a Human Always Review?

Everything that leaves the building. AI drafts, humans approve. Check these before anything is published:

  • Hours, service areas, and any offer. If it names a price, a discount, or a timeframe, confirm it is true today.
  • Safety language. AI should never be the voice that tells a homeowner how to troubleshoot gas, sparking wiring, or carbon monoxide.
  • Licensing. Oregon's CCB requires your license number in advertising; check CCB rules for the specifics on what your ads and pages need to show.
  • Local accuracy. A post about Happy Valley neighborhoods should not name a street you do not serve.

A Simple Weekly Routine

  1. Monday: review the week's AI-drafted post, text, and email. Edit and approve.
  2. Midweek: add one real photo or job note from the field to the content queue.
  3. Friday: check that the profile and website show accurate hours and any seasonal wait times.

It is not glamorous. It is the kind of steady habit that keeps a shop visible in the months when competitors go quiet. No calendar can guarantee call volume, but it does make sure your best content is out before homeowners start searching.
